Rated 5 out of 5 by from FS 56 RC-E Very light and nice weed eater except for the head........kept breaking the string really quick but I seen where the service technician said soak it in water over night ....that helped out a lot.......but the real solution for me was to buy better line at another hardware store near me......works fine now .....no complaints.......

Rated 5 out of 5 by from powerful dependable excellent value super great trimmer easy to start. I have had many trimmers none compare to this stihl trimmer The only negative comment I have is that you have to remove the trimmer head to reload the string. The trimmer is very powerful and a pleasure to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trimmer @ Great Price When looking for a string trimmer I looked at all of the big box stores and found that they are the same price as a Stihl so when it came to make my purchase I went with a name that was well known and offered a warranty and a service department at the dealership. So when it came to it I went with a name that is trusted to be reliable and offers support long after the purchase is made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Line spool needs help Stihl makes great products -- they start up easily; last a long time; and are well-made. You'd hope that with the high quality Stihl puts out they could come up with a better solution to line winding on this trimmer. It's still a hassle and requires a lot of stop/start when in use to fix line that has either jammed or won't advance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Power plus I have always had a curved shaft trimmer so this straight shaft is taking a little adjustment. I DO like that this trimmer has all the power needed and then some. So far I am very impressed with the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from new, does not start Bought this trimmer and have taken it back twice, wont start. dealer first time told me not to prime it. did that still would not start, took it back again and this time they told me not to set it to cold start. Both times I followed the instruction booklet and they are telling me not to do that.Wanted just to trade it out for another one,but dealer says stihl makes them prove what part is defective. dealer is pleasant I thing that stihl policy towards their dealers is poor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good... but... My 12 year old trimmer finally gave out, so I decided to give Stihl a try this time. This review is after my second weekend of use. I did a lot of reading to narrow down to the 56RC-E.The trimmer performs great. After priming with the fuel bulb, then choking, the trimmer starts on the first pull most every time. It has plenty of power to take care of my 4.5 acres. The string dispenses as it should with no problems. Overall... this is a great performing trimmer after 2 weekends of use.Now for what’s wrong with the trimmer. The large engine housing is designed and located too close to the operators hand/arm. It sets right underneath my right arm almost up against my wrist. As a result, when I finish trimming, my neck & right shoulder hurt. Also, the housing gets hot and touches my arm frequently during operation. With this positioning of the engine housing, it makes it difficult to turn the trimmer to make different cuts, like edging my concrete.Overall.... the trimmer performs well. The poor design & location of the large engine housing is a bit disappointing and keeps me from giving my review 5 stars... it also would likely cause me to purchase a different trimmer if I could go back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad to see Stihl quality has not dropped I bought this string trimmer to supplement my aging FS44 (20 years old now), and to replace my frustratingly useless and string hungry Snapper S28BC. So far this trimmer has performed well, and is very efficient in regards to string consumption. It seems to help that it has a well designed throttle control, allowing me to use the speed necessary to trim the weeds rather than full blast (Snapper S28BC). The quality of the trimmer seems to be par with their older models, and I am looking forward to getting 20+ years out of this trimmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased 6 hours ago and like it a great deal. Does a top-notch job. Sales associate at Stihl dealership recommended the 56R to me over the more costly 75R that I was planning to purchase. Supposedly easier to start and almost as powerful. Used it already for about two hours and I am more than pleased. Both trim lines did disappear in the head once, but it was no big deal fixing it with my bare hands right in the field. The only negative aspect, it appears to be noisier than two competitive models that I already own and had carburetor problems with. Was able to buy the Stihl trimmer with a four year warranty. See reason for recommendation for the most important advantage perceived by me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great trimmer for the price This trimmer is an excellent choice for almost anyone.Light, starts easy, and doesn't have a lot of vibration. It has plenty of power for tall weeds and wet grass.Does a good job at edging as well. The only negative thing I've found with it is the head.Firstly, it's really stiff to press the tabs in to get it apart.Second is that you need to wrap the line in a uniform manner.Other wise the line can jammed in the head.I've found it helps if you do not over lap the line more than necessary . Wrap it evenly. Going from one side to the other then back. Don't wrap it too tight. This is an excellent trimmer. I'm likely going to get another one for my mother as it so easy to use. Good job Stihl.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far a great product, I have only used it one time so far. My FS-56-RC is extremely easy to start and it has more than enough power for very high grass.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gas cap poorly designed, falls off and gas all over I have a Stihl weed trimmer and the organization I work for has another one. BOTH have had the same problem, of the black-and-white gas cap being almost impossible sometimes to get screwed on solidly. It's the most peculiar design I've ever seen. Feels tight but in fact is slightly cocked and falls off. My wife got gas all over her clothes. I replaced both the caps after they fell off and were lost, and the new ones have the same exact problem.I'll never buy a Stihl trimmer again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I am happy with my purchase. I have been debating on purchasing a new trimmer after constantly having to work on my old one. I have had this now for over a month and have used it around 6 times. It sure is nice having a piece of equipment that you can depend on to run well every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely love it Works awesome and is very easy to start and operate. It is tough on the weeds. I liked the fact we could put the blade on it for better cutting in the tough weeds.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Line Feed is Terrible After about 5-10 seconds of use, the line disappears into the spool. Rewound the line several times, didn’t help, then read that the line becomes “dried out” and needs replaced. Seemed sketchy but I replaced with new Stihl line and the issue remains. Extremely disappointing product. Gave it 1 star because 1 is the minimum, should be zero.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Full gas tank is empty in about 45 minutes I purchased the 56 RC. The tank ran out of gas after an hour due to the size of the tank. Also had a problem with the bump feed. I took it back to the store and they informed me that the factory put the string in wrong. The dealer struggled with the string and finally got the bump feed working. I used the trimmer again the next day and the string stopped coming out of one side of the feed head. I pulled the string out and it seems to be working. I also noticed the trimmer uses a lot of string. I have a small yard, less than a 1/4 acre with a fairly small amount of weeds that need trimming each time after I cut the lawn. I don’t think a full roll of string is going to last me two full trimmings of my yard. The only thing that impressed me is the power. I thought this would be a good solid product since it is an American made product. The only reason I’m keeping it is because I purchased the oil and gas mix which doubled my warranty to 4 years. I thought about returning the trimmer for a refund but decided against it due to being able to have it serviced at my local dealer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What homeowner weed eaters should be I bought this trimmer several months ago now and I use it to do my entire lawn that totals about 1/3 an acre and has some heavy grass around fence lines. I was tired of buying the junky cheap ones that don't last so I got the FS 56. My dad has and FS 56 that has been running for about 5 summers now solid without a single issue. Amazing product with plenty of power. Spend the extra money and buy a STIHL, you wont regret it.
